THE SKIPPER'S SPEECH

(Pictures with permission Carol Lapidos '09)

Not many of you Beatles fans know this but I want to let you know, that all of us on Gilligan's Island were huge Beatles fans.

The Minnow left Honolulu on September 26, 1964 for a three hour tour, shortly after the Beatles started the first of their three-years' tour.

In fact, the Beatles knew about us being shipwrecked and wrote many songs to cheer us up. Late on Sunday nights our radio would only pick up "Breakfast with the Beatles" on XRT from Chicago.

Each of us had our favorites.

Thurston Howell III: Loved "Money" but he hated "Taxman."

Lovee Howell: Always sang along to "Baby You're a Rich Man."

The Professor's favorite: "Dr. Robert."

Gilligan: My "little buddy." Depending on his state of mind, constantly lived in "Misery" and even though he had friends in an "Octopus's Garden." We can't forget he always needed "Help!"

"Ginger or Mary Ann?" Ahh, the dilemma of men everywhere.

Mary Ann: The sweet and wholesome but not so naive country girl preferred: "Why Don't We Do It in the Road!"

Ginger: On the other hand, is here with me tonight, because "She Came in through the Bathroom Window."

Myself, "The Skipper", I was the original "Nowhere Man" who was always "Fixing a Hole". So remember this Chicago, "Everybody's Got Something to Hide, Except for Me and My Monkey!"

Goodnight and thank you, John-Paul-George and Ringo!
